Lung collapsed

Doctors had been advising me to quit smoking since X-ray results revealed “half-burnt” lungs which would lead to severe respiratory problems. In March 1997, I experienced tightness in my chest and breathing difficulty and was immediately hospitalised. I was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease – a result of my extensive years of smoking.

In the first few days of hospitalisation, my condition deteriorated with occasional spasm in my chest. By the 4th day, doctors confirmed that my condition was critical and told my family members to expect the worst outcome as my chances of recovery was very slim.

All this time, my daughter, who was born again, and her church members had been praying fervently for me. She shared with me Psalms 91:14-16 that gave me hope and the assurance that God was capable of delivering me from my dire situation. I started praying to the Lord and asked for His intervention. Praise God that my health improved and I was discharged 5 days later.

2 weeks later, I was baptised by full immersion and received the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. God continue to stabilise my condition. Doctors expected I would frequent the hospital with occasional respiratory attacks, but with God’s protection, I have not experienced any attacks. The respiratory specialist also recommended me to undergo a lung operation. However, with prayer to the Lord, the specialist commented that my health has made positive progress and that I don’t have to undergo the operation anymore.

I know God continue to have His hands upon me. Thank God for fulfilling His promises as I put my trust in Him. Amen.
